March 2, 2009 – AWTAD, as part of the MENA BWN program, conducted a session entitled "Mentoring and Career Planning in a Down Economy" at the Canadian International College. The session was part of the CIC Career Week, which was especially designed to bridge the gap between employers' requirements and students/graduates job expectations in difficult economic times. AWTAD President, Ms. Shereen Allam gave an opening presentation addressing the current financial crisis, its different effects on all of us, and how to face it. She also stated that whether or not we can change Egypt's economic situation will depend vastly on the degree to which we empower the youth and engage the community to fully mobilize the role of women as the core of sustainable development.
Coaching and mentoring expert, Ms. Ghada Sharif explained how mentoring and career planning is a main tool for those who are embarking on their career path's to help them determine their options, goals, and hopes and how they can achieve them with their capabilities and utilizing opportunities present in the employment market. The session, which resulted in an overwhelming positive response, attracted over 200 attendees. It was followed by one-on-one discussions between students applying for AWTAD's Mentoring Program.
