Mentoring

"AWTAD's Mentoring Program: Steps into the Future"

AWTAD’s debut project is a mentoring program that involves one-to-one training between a highly experienced professional (mentor) and a less experienced individual (mentee). The coaching, role modeling, advice, and encouragement that are part of the training program are sure to provide the mentee with an extraordinary learning experience, both on a personal and professional level, that will positively shape his/her future.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is not a new concept; it has its roots in ancient Greece. And throughout the millennia, mentoring— providing guidance and counsel to a younger individual (mentee) —has occurred spontaneously, as informal relationships:

a supervisor at work who takes an interest in a young person’s upward mobility;

a teacher who takes extra time with a struggling or promising student;

an older family member who provides a shoulder to lean on when needed.

Now, more than ever, formal mentoring programs like ours have been cropping up throughout the public and private sectors all around the world; more and more community organizations, businesses and governments are launching formal mentoring initiatives.

Especially, in a time when, an astounding 17.6 million young people – nearly half of the young population between 10 and 18 years of age- live in situations that put them at risk of not living up to their full potential; mentoring has proved to be, not just a powerful tool for helping young people fulfill their dreams, but a necessity for human and social development. And by establishing a mentorship program that adheres to sound management and operation practices, AWTAD will provide those blossoming wits with the support they need to strive.

Why the SIF Mentoring Program?

We firmly believe that EVERYONE has potential to succeed in life and contribute to society. Our main focus is to help young people establish a clearer perspective about their future goals and how to achieve them. This will help stabilize them in their career paths and thus give more stability to organizations. A Mentor will serve as a role model/ life coach to a younger mentee all through this process. Ultimately, Mentoring Program will help build structured and trusting relationships that bring young people together with caring adults who offer guidance, support, positive reinforcement, and constructive examples aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee.

Vision:

AWTAD Mentoring Program will empower young people embarking on a career path and will help them determine their options, aspirations and hopes and how they can achieve them with their capabilities and utilizing opportunities present in the employment market.
