As reports of breast cancer continue to reflect increases among women, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) is requiring that its 5,855 women employees attend a mandatory breast cancer awareness session. The sessions necessitate training 120 volunteers, among them physicians, nurses and paramedics, to educate patients about breast cancer. The awareness sessions end in February 2010 and will be followed by screening sessions from March through August 2010. The RAK hospital also launched a breast cancer awareness campaign during the month of October, breast cancer awareness month, for its employees. This campaign is focused on raising awareness around the importance of having regular checkups for breast cancer for early detection and treatment. The campaign offers free mammographies, bone scans for osteoporosis for all women above the age of 40, and 25 percent discounts to all women for a health check up.
