"New study spotlights opportunities and barriers for working women worldwide"

Economic Intelligence Unit

A report by the Economist Intelligence Unit illustrates economic opportunities for women around the world and reveals the most and least advantageous countries for female businesswomen and entrepreneurs. Based on the Women’s Economic Opportunity Index, which uses 26 indicators to evaluate economic and social aspects facing women in the workforce, the report assesses laws, regulations, practices and attitudes that affect female workers and entrepreneurs throughout their lives. Findings of the report explain that countries are making progress in creating equal opportunities for women. Yet, many women remain unable to participate in the economy due to not only regulatory policies by governments, but also social stigmatisms and customs. The study looks to provide the foundation for governments to think and act progressively in improving economic and social opportunities for women around the world through a thorough understanding of the economic landscape they face.
