AWTAD (Association for Women’s Total Advancement and Development) - Egypt

The mission of the AWTAD is to encourage women in business to “Lead and mentor other women to achieve success” To reach those women, we advocate, research and disseminate information, develop new ideas, build business networks and assist young men and women to achieve professionalism. AWTAD will promote entrepreneurial opportunities and will promote SME’s and try to find solutions for existing problems in this area. AWTAD helps both those who are starting and those who have already taken the entrepreneurial path through training programs, business incubators, mentoring, workshops and field work.

"Structuring Philanthropy for the Future of Egypt": AWTAD's First Corporate Ambassadors Program a Success

On November 22-23, 2008, AWTAD organized its first US Corporate Ambassadors Conference in Egypt entitled, "Structuring Philanthropy for the Future of Egypt". The Corporate Ambassadors Conference was part of the MENA Businesswomen’s Network program, and organized by AWTAD in Egypt in cooperation with the U.S. State Department's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, Vital Voices Global Partnership, and sponsored by ExxonMobil, Hilton Corporation and Mobinil.

Leading Egyptian and American women business leaders will meet November 22-23 to explore critical issues surrounding private and corporate philanthropy in Egypt. As the current global financial turmoil creates a larger gap between the rich and poor in many societies, the impact of philanthropy is increasingly recognized as a means to addressing social needs. The Corporate Ambassadors Program seeks to examine approaches to corporate social responsibility and discuss how these practices are changing the social and economic landscapes of the U.S, Egypt, and other countries.
