Following the 8th round of the Algerian-Tunisian Technical Committee for Industrial Co-operation on June 30th, participants of the conference agreed that trade and investment between the two countries is in need of reform. The Tunisian Minister of Industry and Technology felt that Algerian-Tunisian co-operation must utilize opportunities available by enhancing technical and structural economic co-operation and creating a “joint, integrated industrial structure.” The hope for fuller integration would provide for strengthening of their economies and addressing the trade deficit. Last April, the two countries signed a preferential trade agreement to foster economic development and trade co-operation in preparation for a common free trade zone – yet, the two countries remain hesitant to take advantage of these conditions.
