"Jordan's Tourism Revenues up 30 pct"

Maktoob Business

Official data released on Monday showed a 30% rise in tourism in Jordan within the first five months of the year compared to the same period from 2009. This percentage amounts to 887 million dinars ($1.25 billion). Tourists visiting Jordan to explore Petra and the Dead Sea rose 32%. The financial crisis may be partially responsible for this increase, cajoling Arab tourists from the Gulf to avoid more expensive destinations like Europe. Tourism accounts for over 11% of Jordan’s GDP.
