Following President Barack Obama’s “new beginning” speech in 2009, entrepreneurship has become a topic that both the Arab world and the US lend importance to as an effective means to overcoming unemployment and the potential social unrest that can result. Thus, dialogue around business creation has emerged in US-Arab discussions as a new grassroots movement to end the cycle of unemployment, social unrest and terrorism. Obstacles to sparking an increase in the number of entrepreneurs in the Arab world persist, both cultural and bureaucratic. Yet, many Arab entrepreneurs feel that with the encouragement of creative thinking, innovation and social commitment in education, complemented by the continued growth of the middle class and the successful implementation of the US State Department’s Global Entrepreneurship Programme, Arab entrepreneurs are bound to meet success in the future.
